Plate Calculator

Enter your target weight and bar weight to see the plate breakdown per side.

How it's calculated

The calculator subtracts the bar weight from your target, then fills each side with the largest available plates first, working down to the smallest.

How to use your result

Confirm the plates you actually have available match what's assumed (a standard Olympic set) before trusting the breakdown at an unfamiliar gym.

Common mistakes

Forgetting the bar's own weight, or assuming every gym uses the same 45 lb / 20 kg bar — some use lighter women's bars or technique bars.

When to talk to a coach

If a target weight can't be made exactly, a coach can help decide whether to round up, round down, or adjust reps instead — small load jumps matter more at some points in a program than others.
